I wanted to start talking about my english learning journey.
I started learning English in 2018, maybe August. At the time I read some… read a book that book was a series was the book of Oxford bookworm series and it was maybe stage one, I mean it was really easy to read book and I finished that book then I read other books and finished repeatedly. As I finished books, I was confident about reading English contents
and I was little bit interesting in listening, so in 2019 November I started to listening practice, I mean I set up the goal of listening practice… I set goals of 15 hundred hours of listening. From that time and until to now I listen every day. I mostly listened Podcast or YouTube or audiobooks. I listened 20 minutes or one hour a day and I understand better… I understand better English contents that I listening but though I am difficult to understand English news or drama.
Anyway in 2020, pandemic has started and I thought that it was opportunity to practice English more, so I decided to practice speaking. I was a really beginner of speaking at that time and I didn’t know how I practice speaking or what kind of method was appropriate for me, so I did every method, for example shadowing or reading aloud or a writing and reading aloud and free-speaking… free-talking. Many kind of methods that I was used, it was a little bit impact me, a little bit… it was help me to speaking better, and nowadays I have focused shawdowing practice because it helps me to speak more clear pronuntiation or accent, and it helps me to understand other who use English.
English practice or English practice habit was like… it’s like a my mental medication because keeping a daily routine have made me more strong mentally or even physically, because I construct a day… English practice is a center of my day. I mainly construct a day in related to English practice, so… I mean every time I have a time I practice English, reading or listening or shadowing, I practice every method that I can use at that time. So I have a purpose of life, goal of a day or life. It make me more… make me think cleary, because I always think about my English goal and how to achieve them and doing my own practice, and a series of this practice is really helpful in my life.
Also English practice is really fun. Of course it’s a little bit painful sometimes when I practice English, but for example reading a non-fiction that I interested in is very fun and also helpful to me
and in related to what kind of reading, I have read some textbooks and non textbooks, non-fiction book, so I read many textbooks last four years, but I recommend two books in related to my major, Clinical Psychology. The first book is Psychological assessment with the mmpi-2. It’s like a bible. Everyone who using psychological tool must read that book because it describe very specifically and practically, I mean it really useful to evaluate, useful to understand patients or client when I’m working in. So I read this book for about 14 months with other people, and I wrote some notes about this book, and I post to blog this note. It includes many code-types and this code-types useful to understand the patient and diagnostic decision.
Other book was is Disorders of personality. It explain many personality type and its historical background and treatment plan, so I also read this book with other people, and it’s really difficult book, but I sometimes read this book.
and the other two non-fiction book are Four thousand weeks and building a second brain. Building a second brain wrote by Tiago Forte who is expert of self-development or time management. He assists we need to build our own knowledge system and it is available by capture ideas and writing a note and then connecting the notes. This kind of method is not new, new method, but he describes with very friendly and easy, so many people are influenced by his… this book. This book is my one of the my favorite book of the year, and I wrote two memos every day last one year, and then I connect the memos, and then wright a blog post. I wrote 52 blog posts through this kind of method. So I believe message of this book, and I thought that how I use this method in my English practice… is… I have been thinking about this.
So that’s it. It’s my today’s practice. I want to speak more fluently, so I have to repeat this kind of practice because if who wants to speake fluently he must speak more. Every time he speaks in English he will be better English speaker in my opinion.
