올해 1월 5일에 업로드된 BBC 에피소드입니다. 대만에서 여당이 안티중국 노선인데 이번에 재집권 성공했네요. 여당이나 야당이나 전쟁은 피해야 한다는 데 마음을 같이 하고 있으나, 여당은 만약 침공해 온다면 결전을 불사한다는 의지를 보여주고, 대만 젊은이들도 대체로 비슷한 마음가짐인 것 같습니다.

 

중국 전투기가 수시로 대만 영공을 침범하여 비행하는데 대부분의 대만 국민은 평안함을 유지하는 것 같다고 대만 주재 리포터가 말하네요. 북한이 수시로 미사일을 쏘아 올리는 것을 지켜보는 한국 국민들의 정서와 비슷하지 않을까 추측해 봅니다. 

 

2024년 미국 대선에서 누가 대통령이 될지도 당연히 정세에 영향을 미칠 큰 변수이며, 트럼프가 재집권에 성공할 경우, 그가 대만에 어떤 태도를 취할지 가늠이 되지 않는다고 말하는 게 흥미롭습니다. 미국은 여당이든 야당이든 전통적으로 대만에 대한 초당적 지지를 보내왔다고 말하는 것 같기도 합니다.
