[번역과 오역의 사이에서] Conducting Psychological Assessment: A Guide for Practitioners (2)

This text is a primer for the process of psychological assessment and testing rather than a guide to using any single test. 
이 교재는 어떠한 단일 검사를 사용하기 위한 안내서가 아니라 심리학적 평가 및 검사 과정을 위한 입문서이다. 

Six major processes make up any psychological assessment: 
어떠한 심리학적 평가라도 아래와 같은 여섯 가지 주요 과정으로 이루어진다:
 
1. conducting a clinical interview 
임상 면담을 시행하기
2. choosing a battery of tests
검사 구성을 선택하기 
3. administering, coding, scoring, and interpreting tests
검사 시행, 코딩, 채점, 검사 결과의 해석 
4. integrating and conceptualizing information gathered from test results, the clinical interview, behavioral observations, and other sources 
검사 결과, 임상 면담, 행동 관찰, 다른 자료들을 통해 얻어진 정보를 통합하고 개념화하기
5. writing a psychological assessment report 
심리학적 평가 보고서를 작성하기
6. providing feedback to the individual assessed or the referral source 
수검자 혹은 평가를 의뢰한 이에게 결과를 피드백하기

While most psychological assessment texts focus on test administration, coding, scoring, and interpretation (see Groth-Marnat & Wright, 2016; Lezak, Howieson, Bigler, & Tranel, 2020; Sattler, 2018; Weiner & Greene, 2017) and while there are many works on clinical interviewing (see MacKinnon, Michels, & Buckley, 2015; McConaughy, 2013; Sommers-Flanagan & Sommers-Flanagan, 2017; Sullivan, 1970), few have focused specifically on the fourth step: the use of all data collected throughout the assessment to come up with a fully integrated, coherent picture of the individual being tested that will support clear, specific, and useful recommendations. 
심리학적 평가를 다루는 많은 교과서가 검사 시행, 코딩, 채점, 해석에 초점 맞추며 임상 면담에 관한 교재도 많은 데 반해, 네 번째 단계, 즉 평가을 통해 수집된 모든 데이터를 사용하여, 명확하고 구체적이며 유용한 제언을 뒷받침할 충분히 통합되고 일관성 있는 청사진을 제시하는 단계에 구체적으로 초점 맞춘 교과서는 드물다.
 
Similarly, sample reports can be extremely useful in formatting the structure of a psychological assessment report, but few texts have focused on the conceptual content of good reports.
이와 비슷하게, 샘플 보고서는 심리학적 평가 보고서의 구조를 형성하는 데 대단히 유용하지만 좋은 보고서의 개념적 내용에 초점 맞춘 교과서는 드물다.

첫 문장에서 assessment와 testing의 차이가 궁금하여 검색해 보니 아래와 같네요.

 

Test and assessment are used interchangeably, but they do mean something different. A test is a “product” that measures a particular behavior or set of objectives. Meanwhile assessment is seen as a procedure instead of a product.

 

본문에서는 test가 아니라 testing이라고 적었고 상호교환 가능한 의미로 쓴 것 같지만요.
